Soft Tissue Grafting

Restore Gum Health

A soft tissue graft may be used to prevent further gum recession from occurring, cover exposed tooth roots, treat tooth sensitivity, and improve the aesthetics of the gums. It may also be recommended as part of your dental implant treatment plan.

At Beverly Hills Oral Maxillofacial Surgery & Dental Implants, Dr. Aynechi uses the latest technology to develop detailed treatment plans for our patients while ensuring the safest possible care. Contact our practice today to find out how soft tissue grafting can improve your health and to receive a custom care plan. We are conveniently located for patients living in Los Angeles and provide the full scope of oral surgery care to patients of all ages.

Do I Need a Soft Tissue Graft?

If you are experiencing any of the following signs or symptoms, you may be a candidate for a soft tissue graft:

  • Gum recession
  • Exposed tooth roots
  • Red, swollen, and/or bleeding gums
  • Thin gums
  • Sensitivity to hot/cold foods

Types of Soft Tissue Grafting

The right type of soft tissue graft for you will depend on your needs. We will explain all of your options and explain every step of your care so you always know what to expect. When undergoing any type of oral surgery procedure at our practice, you can choose from a variety of anesthesia and sedation options to ensure your comfort. We offer local anesthesia, IV sedation, nitrous oxide, and general anesthesia, and we will help you select the right option for you during the consultation.

  • Free gingival graft. A piece of tissue is taken from the roof of the patient’s own mouth and grafted to the area where more gum tissue is needed. This is typically recommended for patients who do not have sufficient gum tissue.
  • Connective tissue graft. Tissue from under the patient’s soft palate is removed and sutured into place at the graft site. This is typically recommended for patients who require a larger area of treatment, or to treat exposed tooth roots.

Soft Tissue Grafting Procedure

During your first visit, Dr. Aynechi will examine your oral health and create your custom care plan. Based on the specifics of your treatment plan, we will explain your options and discuss the right type of tissue graft procedure for your oral health needs. Our office is equipped with state-of-the-art 3D imaging technology, which allows us to view your facial anatomy from virtually any angle. With these images, we can assess your oral health in great detail, detect hidden health concerns, and ensure optimal results.

Regardless of the type of soft tissue grafting procedure you need, your procedure will start with the administration of anesthesia. Once you are comfortable, your oral surgeon will remove soft tissue from a predetermined area of your mouth and then suture the tissue to the site where more gum tissue is needed. We will provide you with detailed pre-operative and post-operative instructions to ensure you have a smooth procedure and recovery.

Types of Anesthesia

There are many types of anesthesia and sedation available.
